WHAT I MISS ABOUT COLORADO

1 – Fried pickles from Remo’s down on 4th Street in Loveland.

2 – Arby’s. I cannot say this enough. I would fall down on my knees at the counter & bring offerings to the high-school student at the cash register for just one Beef & Cheddar combo meal with Mozzarella Sticks right now.

3 – Wal-Mart. Low, low prices every day. I could buy cat food, socks, a goldfish, a banana & a TV all in one place.

4 – The Halloween stores in October. Halloween barely exists in France. I miss my annual shopping trips for new home décor items at the Halloween shops.

5 – The drive-in theater. In the summer, I miss the gluttonous & lazy fun of sitting in the car, gorging on a bunch of crappy nachos & candy while watching movies with my friends. The drive-in theaters are almost gone in the states & they don’t exist at all in France.

WHAT’S GREAT ABOUT PARIS

1 – Stinky cheese abounds. They don’t even allow this stuff across the US borders & if you do find it, it’s because you found a cheese shop specializing in imported cheese. Yay for finding the stinky cheese in the states, but bummer for the smaller selection & higher prices.

2 – Quick. This is the big fast-food joint around here. I’ve developed a strong addiction that has managed to curb the severe symptoms of my Arby’s withdrawal.

3 – Frites sauce. Ok, so frites are what we know as French Fries. (Which are not French, but that’s for another day. So for those Freedom Fries people – joke’s on you.) There is a special sauce here that is basically a crack sauce. I haven’t eaten fries with ketchup since…well, I don’t even remember when.

4 – Kebabs. These have nothing to do with shish kabobs. These are Döner kebabs. It’s Turkish & is basically lamb meat, which is slowly, roasted on a vertical spit, then sliced & they stuff these delicious meaty chunks into pita bread. It’s a bit like a gyro & is also highly addictive in a way similar to crack addiction.

5 – Fête de la Musique. Every year in June, musicians of all kinds take to the streets all over France. As soon as you step outside, you hear music & just walking up & down the streets, there are bands playing in parks, on the sidewalks, in bars & restaurants – literally everywhere. Amateurs & professionals, they’re all there. Sometimes, they’re not even playing instruments; there are also plenty of DJs like this guy.
